How long do 2 in. or smaller fish live??

I have eleven small fish and i’m asking how long they will live?

Chosen Answer:

Depends on the size of the tank. Each fish needs 2 gallons of clean water so you should have at least 20+ gallons in your tank, keep it clean and warm with a good water filter and they will live for a year or more.

Life expectancy completely depends on what type of fish you have. Killies stay small, but only live a year or two. Goldfish are usually small in the store, but grow to be really big and live for decades. Of course you have to give them proper care in order for them to die of old age. You didn’t give any info on what species you have, so no one is going to be able to give an exact answer.

“IN THE ‘WILD’ “, USUALLY,ONLY AS LONG,OR, UNTIL A BIGGER FISH EATS THEM—DUE TO THE ‘NATURALLY OCCURRING’ “FOOD CHAIN”.

It depends on what type of fish it is…some small fish will live for only 1 or 2 years such as a killifish …whereas others can live 10 years or more like some tetras.

ive had a fish tank for about 3 years and i still have 5 of the fish i started with they will probaly live about 2 years depending about care

Almost all common small aquarium fish like neons, betta’s and such can easily pass 5 years with the right care and environment. Guppies usually a few years and not usually more then 5. The tiny pigmy goby, a marine fish, has a life cycle of a couple of months.

If the fish were not researched and are only small and meant to grow, who knows how long it will take stunting to kill them.

For you? If you have them in a 1 gallon bowl not long at all. If you have them in a 15 or 20 gallon tank (and they are fish that are not only small, but stay small) then they can live their full potential lifespan as long as you maintain the tank well and feed properly and have the tank setup right and all the fish are compatible and in proper groups… you can see there are many variables involved.
